Partnerships and Volunteers

The Charter School’s programs and services will extend beyond the student to the family and beyond the walls of the school to the community.  The Charter School will not be a separate entity, but an integral part of the community.  Families, congregations, neighborhood associations, youth organizations, businesses and others in the community that play an important role in the shaping of young people’s lives will be invited to participate in reciprocal partnerships which open doors for students.  The Board of Directors has committed to canvassing the community and recruiting individuals to share their expertise with students and families.

Building Partnerships

Student achievement will also rely on the joint efforts and teamwork of the entire Lake County community.  Neighborhood businesses, local residents and others interested in the Charter School students’ success will be welcomed partners. The Humanities and Fine Arts Charter School, Inc. will build partnerships with local businesses, civic groups, higher education institutions, retired educators and professionals to serve as Partners in Education.  Partnerships and community organizations will be invited to work with the Educational Leader in providing daily volunteer assistance, resources, special programs and special support to the students, personnel and school community.

Volunteers Needed

Each student will participate in an Interest Focus Group on Wednesdays for 50 minutes.  They will have an opportunity to chose a major and pursue their special interest in performing and visual arts (i.e., musical instruments, chorus, art, drama, dance and oration).  Rich and diverse resources (i.e., playwrights, musicians, dancers, orators and artists) from the community are needed to serve as volunteers in the program, under the direction of the classroom teachers and instructional specialists.

The Charter School will encourage community volunteers including local high school students and senior citizens to support students in their quest for excellence.  It is the Charter School’s belief that diversity adds to its strength, so significant efforts will be made to ensure the school is an inclusive environment for those who want to participate.  The School’s goal is to design programs that create a sense of cooperation, trust and shared experiences that will transcend life at school and help to improve the entire community.

Parents will be an integral part of the Charter School.  Parents will be expected to contribute a designated amount of hours per school year to the students and school’s success through both “in” and “out” of school volunteer opportunities.  The Charter School will ensure that these opportunities are varied and available during the day, evenings and weekends to accommodate the busy schedules of families.
